Reading Vertical

I think it's fascinating to see people read traditional vertical Japanese. Often I see these little pocket books on the metro or bus 📚🚌.

I wondered if it would also look cool in English 🤔.

So I wrote a little App Script to try.

The short answer: it doesn't look cool because English words are not equal in length.

But I had a some fun playing with it.

I converted a famous essay into a vertical format, and I put it on my Kindle.

Below is the first page as a teaser.

You have to read from top right to bottom left.

After showing it, a Japanese friend told me they write English in landscape for vertical books like the example below.
